LUCY, UNCENSORED is a story about all the complex feelings of senior year of high school to freshman year of college, of letting go of one specific set of dreams to discover something even better, and taking tentative steps into adulthood. If all that wasn't enough, the authors also tackle censorship, gender, medically fragile parents and transphobia on top of that. It's a lot of storylines for one book and a debut at that, but they stick the landing. There were a few storylines I would've liked to see expanded upon, but overall, this is a wonderful book to hand to the cis and trans teens in your life.
Of particular note, Mel and I went to the same university and I giggled when I read the scenes set at the fictional university. From the name of the school to the description of BAA and Sheep parties to the way current students talk about and address the trans policies (& issues within), I saw our shared alma mater, messy and endearing and loved it. I would fully read a companion and/or novella of Lucy and Callie's adventures at Botetourt!
