This book is well written. It is lyrical. To me, it reads like what it is- an MFA product. It does all the things- non-linear timeline, political novel, referential...it is a fine read, and informative about some Cuban and Salvadorian history and culture, and maybe about the migration experience in the contemporary US. It joins dozens of other contemporary novels like it.
