A Horus Heresy book that more than shines as a stand alone book. When I hear the word imagery, I always think of this book - it would be a great addition to any english teacher's curriculum if it wasn't so utterly perverse. The characterization of each character is superb, and their gradual corruption builds from scene to scene. The fates of each character are poetic. The Miraviglia scene remains entrenched in my mind with the unique and insanely vivid picture it paints. One of if not the best Horus Heresy books, and a masterpiece in how to write a villain's descent into madness.
