Another rousing Sharpe adventure! Once again we find Sharpe humiliated by the actions of his "superiors." It's up to Sharpe and his misfit band of Riflemen to right the wrongs and recapture glory for their adopted regiment, and in unusual fashion the tale is told lightening fast. The standard doe eyed woman sub plot remains, but is largely used as a device to further Sharpe's actions in battle, which keeps the plot moving nicely.

All in all, a fine example of the Sharpe series and one that leaves you reaching for the next installment.

My greatest nitpick is the seemingly fluid treatment of Sharpe by Sir Wellesley. Sometimes cold and disdaining, other times warm and sincere it is hard to discern how the man truly feels about our Captain Sharpe, but alas it is a small portion of our otherwise heroic and rousing tale.
