Death Weavers by Brandon Mull

4.0

When I started this book, I wasn't very enthusiastic when I found out that the kingdom was based on dabbling with spirits, afterlife, and a purgatory realm. I thought it would end up having an off flavor of spookiness, but I have to say that even though the afterlife is not my cup of tea, I stand very proudly behind the creativity of Brandon Mull. His imagination and storytelling have never disappointed me, and he spins such satisfying tales.

After spending four books with the characters, I would give Brandon Mull a standing ovation for who he has written Cole to be. Cole is an exemplary role model for the targeted audience in the middle years. He grapples with the consequences of his decisions and right and wrong, and he is a champion for not just bravery, but morality. I would love for my kids to read this and be inspired by Cole. His character is never questionable. And while completely laudable, I never get the feeling that he is not relatable for readers.

I'm only sorely disappointed that I now have to wait a year for the final installment to be released!
