The Dreamer Volume 1: The Consequence of Nathan Hale
by Lora Innes
AMAZING book, done by a wonderfully talented and intelligent artist/writer who manages to combine history with entertainment seamlessly without having to 'dumb' down details to make an entertaining story or scaring the readers with being overly dense with facts. Innes' portrayal of young girls is spot on, and her characterization as she shows the development of Bea Whalen as she goes from an ordinary young woman with high school problems to an ordinary young woman thrust into problems so much more dangerous and larger than she ever wanted is realistic despite the very unreal situation Bea has to go through. Her portrayal of such historical figures as Mrs. Loring and Nathan Hale(my personal favorite character, by the way.) are very entertaining and helps us relate to them in a way we can't get from a dry high school textbook.
