Perry has created a fascinating world in which crux (giant bird-like creatures) migrate every generation and decimate entire towns. Each country spends years preparing defenses and stockpiling resources so that they can hide underground once the first crux is spotted to signal the start of the migration. Some of the angsty romance plot was very obvious, but it was still interesting.

I knew she was married to the Guardian/Ransom the second it happened. It was so obvious!!!

This book could have been shorter, but I still enjoyed the worldbuilding, the characters, and the romance between

Ransom

and Odessa. I felt like the ending was too rushed. Fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and Rebecca Yarros will enjoy this new series.
