Bones & All by Camille DeAngelis

dark emotional tense fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

I really loved this book. I kind of wish I hadn’t seen the movie before I read it, because I kept comparing the two. But also I really enjoyed going into the movie without reading the book so who knows! Anyway I loved the rural American scenery, the twists were good, and I felt both connected to and scared of Maren. I’m in pain over what happened in the last part. My favorite part is how the way it was written made cannibalism seem so normal, in a way that was unlike any "monster" book I've read before. I would've liked more Lee and Maren time but there wasn't a page of this book where I wasn't intrigued. I also loved reading about Maren and her mom’s relationship.
