Wow!! This went to a point that I was not expecting! I have yet to read Yellowface, but this is totally a cross between the movie Neon Demons & the book "Bunny" by Mona Awad, influencer edition! It also reminds me of "I'm Not Done with You Yet" by Jesse Q. Sutanto. *Check triggers!*
I will say, I think certain readers will get this one and others might not. You have to get the gist of social media influencers on instagram, tiktok, twitch, and youtube. Having some insight on certain trends and scandals will make this easier to get.
In the first half, we are following Julie Chen basically take her long-lost sister's identity and attempts to live in her sister's influencer lifestyle. I felt so nervous during this part, was she going to get caught, could people tell, was she really going to pull this off? In the second half, everything hit the fan! Just bonkers! I was shocked at how dark of a turn things went. Just wow.
This was such a fun ride. I wasn't sure of what I was getting into starting this book, I am so glad I read it!
