The Past Is Red by Catherynne M. Valente

5.0

[Shelf-talker format!] The audiobook version gives this post-apocalyptic story extra oomph in a way my own mind’s voice couldn’t, given I’m not British, despite many decades of… parroting… Monty Python, but that’s ok because I’m sure the story still works without audiobook narrator Penelope Rawlins. This story has something for everyone—plot twists, advanced techno-gadgetry, low-tech survivalists, memorable and endearing characters, an inhabited floating island of garbage, flashbacks, and of course nonsensical decisions that only a future society struggling to survive a flooded planet would make!
