Before reading, I knew nothing but the book blurb on Libby, that a few friends had liked it, and that I had liked Red, White, and Royal Blue. I was expecting it to be a  Very good, but straightforward adult romance much like Red, White, and Royal Blue, but instead it has a whole mystery piece and a sci-fi piece and a queer history piece and found family piece and yes, it’s a contemporary romance too, but it’s so many things at once that it absolutely nails the so specific it’s universal without being straight up predictable tropes. In short, thank you, Casey McQuiston for combining all of my favorite genres and writing a book that is much much more than it seems in both light and deep ways.
