There’s a lot I still love about this book: political intrigue, it’s interesting and engaging even though it is a softer tale, ghola!!!, empathy for Paul’s situation, a thorough exploration to the dark side of ruling, the consequences of empires, etc.

Unfortunately, my memory wasn’t wrong and the writing of the women characters really goes downhill in Messiah. Dune is one of my favourite books partially because of how well the women are written, especially considering that it was written in 1965. Messiah writes women akin to the ways in which most women are characterized in classic sci-fi literature in the 60’s, 70’s, etc.

Very curious to see how this will be adapted into a movie.
