When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker
3.0

Strong, conflicting feelings on this one. Premise and world were enthralling. Writing and execution were not my cup of tea.

Enjoyed: The concept of dragons dying and flying into the sky to solidify into moons; the creation story at the beginning that helped establish the magic system; general contours of the plot.

Didn't Enjoy: The amount of unnecessary description and distracting (unique?) word choice. I'm all for lyrical prose, but in this context less is more. There is a lot of beauty and power in just calling something what it is, rather than using flowery language just for the sake of poeticism. The plot also felt a little all over the place and, paradoxically, I could've done with both more and less world-building (much of it was contained in an initial glossary).
