The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes

5.0

I have to start by saying that I know there is a lot of discussion surrounding the idea that JoJo Moyes plagiarized this book. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure how that could have happened but I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise because I just adore her books.

The Giver of Stars is based on the real-life women known as the Packhorse Librarians of Kentucky. They brought books by horseback to the many people in their communities who would not otherwise have had access to those materials.

The story follows Alice, a young British woman stuck in a horrible marriage, and her friend Margery, who lives life according to her own terms to the shock and dismay of most of the people in "polite society". The book follows the drama and discourse, love and romance, and many adventures (good and bad) that befall these two friends.

I was completely immersed in this story. Alice's journey felt so real and I had a hard time putting this book down. This was a lovely, heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting story. Read it.
