challenging dark informative mysterious tense slow-paced

An incredible read and memoir. This book traverses the life of John Douglass, the pioneering FBI profiler who helped revolutionize the way the world understands and hunts for serial killers.

I enjoyed the slow build. You familiarize yourself with the narrator, and then he narrates stories of his method of profiling and how it came into being.  He tells silly stories showing his sense of humor and compassion for humanity despite his tough line of work. I especially enjoyed when he talked about his family or other investigators at the bureau, contextualizing his life and work. Douglas provides candid glimpses into the detective work of the FBI, and how he has forever changed the industry.

Some of the crimes are very violent and beyond graphic , so if you feel queasy or cannot stand gore, I’d steer clear. But just know this book has a pretty strong and reflective resolution as the work and efforts championed by Douglass and others have helped save countless victims and get justice for these crimes.
