Sheltered mafia princess Solene meets aspiring movie star Declan at age 14, when she finds herself in trouble and he swoops in to her rescue. Their attraction is instant, but the age gap between them has Declan cautiously keeping his distance—until he gives into their mutual desire for just a few seconds in a moment of weakness. That moment changes the course of his entire life. He leaves town that same night battered and beaten, expecting to never see Solene again, until they cross paths years later. Declan sets out to get revenge on Solene for what she did all those years ago, but can he stick to the plan, or does his desire for her burn too strongly?
This was an emotional roller coaster chock full of tension, drama, and some very SPICY spice! The story had a slow start, but as it unfolds, you get all that angsty relationship drama. Solene and Declan have one of the most toxic relationships I’ve ever read, but you can feel their burning desire and passion for each other between the pages of the book. This was a really good read, but the ups and downs in Declan and Solene’s relationship had me frantically biting my nails and pulling my hair! ALSO, he bought her a chain of bookstores so she can access and read all the smut she wants…*SWOON*
I really loved the side characters and definitely want to read more about them! I seriously can’t wait for Knight and Penny’s story!
This has Magnolia Parks-level relationship toxicity with Fifty Shades of Grey-esque BDSM play, all while shining a spotlight on the unrealistic demands, expectations, and lack of privacy set by the entertainment industry.
I was given an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, L. Steele, for the opportunity to read Solene and Declan’s story. I can’t wait to read more of your books in the future—starting with Knight’s story.
