Isabella: Braveheart of France by Colin Falconer
3.0

While I was thoroughly entertained by the soap opera styled plot, I wasn’t entirely fulfilled by the ending. If you’re looking for something similar to Days of our Lives but for real kings and queens, then you’ve found the right book for sure.

Historically, the major decisions/actions within the book are correct. However, Falconer takes every piece of gossip about Isabella and Edward and makes it ‘true’. If that will annoy you, beware.

This novel revolves around essentially a love triangle and is purely motivated by love and sexuality. It’s not so much a romance, though. In fact, there’s not much of the ‘sexual’ parts. Given, those that are there can be...interesting.

This book right here is, for all intents and purposes, a potboiler. It’s catered to mainstream culture so that a modern audience will devour it. There’s nothing wrong with that, as many books do this, but just know you’re in for a comical ride when you pick this one up.
