The Dancers of Arun by Elizabeth A. Lynn

emotional reflective relaxing slow-paced

Watchtower is one of the best books I've read recently, and the same mastery of craft can be found here. There's a wonderful command of tone and a perspective into the daily lives of the characters that makes them feel much larger than their brief appearances in a book that is itself rather brief.

I'd say this is somewhat a weaker book than Watchtower for its narrator and the central romance. One thing I really appreciated about Ryke's growth in Watchtower was how he believed himself too old to grow and learn but was wrong. It's not a theme I've often seen done so well. On the other hand, Kerris's coming into his own as he learns to ope  up felt a lot more conventional and I have reservations about the central romance.
