Hot Wings by Eli Easton, Tara Lain

emotional fast-paced

This second book in the series about a family of California Firefighters centers on middle brother Donny and fire pilot Dell Murphy. Dell is proudly out and Donny is straight, or so he thinks.

The relationship journey here centers on Donny’s discovery that he”s not as straight as he thought he was and the realization that his attraction to a man and the things they’ve done together can’t be brushed off as “just sex.” Likewise, this is the first time Dell has had such strong feelings for a man but he’s resentful of being a dirty secret. Complicated family issues for both men play a role in their decision making and of course, lying and sneaking around never goes well and blows up in a spectacular way.

The story is a bit painful to read given that we’ve just seen what impact Mike’s coming out had on the family, particularly the father, Ang. Donny wants more than anything to please and be respected by his father which makes his recent discovery so difficult to deal with. It makes for a hard read at points since we know what’s ultimately going to happen. Plus you just want to shout at Ang and oldest brother Gabe to get a grip. When a startling revelation forces Ang to rethink some things we see some progress being made and things are looking up towards the end. I’m curious where book three goes.

There were points where things moved a bit slowly and some spots were a bit repetitive but overall the book is quite enjoyable and I look forward to the next book in the series.

**I voluntarily read an arc and this is my unbiased opinion.**
