Dune by Frank Herbert

5.0

Finished the re-read a month ago before the film came out, but only getting around to the review now. Dune is a sci-fi classic that very much holds up to the second read. While the prose occasionally annoys me for for its wooden and on-the-nose dialogue, the worldbuilding of this book is simply superb and hard-to-match. The characters take a life of their own despite the dialogue issues, and I'm still a huge fan of what Herbert did with the mythology of this world and the way he twists traditional hero's journey tropes in crafting this masterpiece. An excellent work. Maybe this time I'll actually manage to press on to the sequels.

Rating: 4-4.5 Stars (Very Good).
