The Lake House by Sarah Beth Durst

3.0

3/3.5 ⭐️

I listened to The Lake House on audiobook. The narration done for audio was great and would definitely look for more done by this voice actor.

Also, before getting into my review on the story, I wanted to point how how beautiful the cover of this book is! So well done!

I rated this book as a 3 or 3.5 ⭐️. It had a good overall storyline that kept me intrigued. It was fairly fast paced and a good length. The mystery element pulled me in.

I found the main character, Claire, thought too much. There was a lot of mushy-feely and angsty inner dialogue happening and it took away from the spookiness of the story. It also made the story lean further into YA than I thought it needed to.

Some of the inner thoughts and even conversations between the three girls could be a bit cringey, which again took away from the scary factor.

All in all, I docked stars mostly for unnecessary inner dialogue that felt more pre-teen than anything. These inner dialogues took away from how creepy and mature this book could have been.
