The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder
4.0

This is maybe my favorite in the series, so far. A family's brutal struggle for survival.
We get another look at Laura's future husband Almonzo Wilder. The first 3/4 of the story raises some questions about his character but he emerges as shrewd, canny and heroic.
The ending was slightly unsatisfying. The story could use a few plot twists or something, but, yeah, it is a children's book.
