Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

3.0

I have mixed feelings about this book.

The author is not at all humble about her success. I 100% think you should own your hard work and effort, but once or twice, not 50 times in one book. She also doesn't seem to understand her privilege. Yes, you can recommend therapy and getting a nanny, and a cleaner, but obviously not everyone can afford those things.

The best part of the book was that the author was honest and vulnerable. She didn't have to include some of the deeply personal things she did in this book (and there was a lot), and I think the effect is very powerful. She does give some solid advice, like the fact that you can't control what happens to you, but you and only you are in charge of what happens next, your reactions, and your happiness. I also liked her idea of setting goals for yourself with visual reminders and rewards for hitting certain milestones. Overall, I liked the general premise of the book, which is to dismantle some of the lies we believe about ourselves, like that we're not worthy unless we're thin and beautiful, that we have to be the perfect mom all the time, or that we should have achieved xyz dreams by age 30/40 etc.
