Since We Fell
by Dennis Lehane
I'm not quite sure what to make of this book. In the beginning, I thought it was a book about a woman trying to find her father and for about 40% of the book, it was. Then it suddenly became a book about a reporter who is dealing with traumatic events in Haiti. I was a bit surprised by that but the author still had my attention because I have worked in Haiti right after the earthquake, so I could relate to some of that (though the reality was nothing like what was described in the book). But then it suddenly became a con/crime story. How did that happen? Basically, it feels like Lehane was trying to write three different books and decided to combine them into one. The three story lines never really connected in my opinion. Also, I do find a little insane how Rachel gets deeper and deeper into trouble once she has discovered she had been lied to. With the police literally standing in front of her door, who would not ask for help? I didn't find that aspect believable.
