The first 30% is 5⭐, the last 30% was very predictable, but still, beautifully written.

There are a lot of tiny tweaks I would've made to deepen the emotional impact of the conflict. I totally see Morgan Rogers' vision, and I think it was executed competently. It's 4⭐ because I feel like I've read this exact story (with all the tiny issues and stylistic choices) in amateur writing classes/fanfiction. And I don't mean that as an insult, I still overall deeply enjoyed this book.

Resolving the main conflict in the last 3% is never a good idea. This book needed either an epilogue or another chapter because the last one feels cramped with events like the first one. But with the first chapter, that was compelling and drew me in to continue reading. That same effect doesn't work with an ending because it doesn't allow space for readers to process emotional moments, thereby making all the grand statements about love feel hollow

I would tweak a lot of moments between Yuki and Grace because their relationship is the weakest part by far. Ximena and the rest of Grace's firends are such wonderful and rich characters that Yuki and her firends feel two-dimensional in comparison. I think we would've benefited a lot from having Grace think about Yuki more, especially in the second half after Grace flees from NY. Having Grace process her feelings for Yuki over time, with her therapist or her mom, would lend to better tension and a more natural resolution to the conflict. I could go on and on nitpicking this book out of instinct from beta reading a lot of similar fanfic, but I won't. This was a gorgeous story of Grace coming into her own, and I adored every last second of it
