Cozy monster romance has recently been a life saver of a genre, pulling me out of reading slumps before they get gnarly. This book is an excellent cozy monster romance.
The couple is charming. The romance is well paced. The world is inviting. I also really love the magic system in this one. The addition of each house in town being almost the familiar of the owner didn't need a lot of explanation on the how of it all but it added a vibrancy to the setting by making it a character itself. It made me want to find this little paradise and move there.
Something to note: this isn't a stand-alone story. I picked up book four originally because someone recommended it but it was pretty obvious after only two pages that I couldn't read that one without having read the rest of the series. While the couple for each book are technically self-contained, book one in the series sets each of the next three couples up so you're missing out on the organic pre-relationship interactions by skipping around. Additionally, the plot outside of the relationships is ongoing to the point where the final scene caught me by surprise because it felt like we were in the middle of something.
