The Grownup by Gillian Flynn

Honestly a little surprised by the controversial opinions on this one. A very short novella by the one and only Gillian Flynn. I doubted that she could build that suspense and horror vibe that she does in her longer novels in such a short amount of time but I have to give it up to her for an incredibly well built characterization in such a short amount of time.

The beginning was really gripping (lol) and you get a lot out of the beginning just as a premise. The switch into the more horror genre was well done because before that it had a more upbeat vibe that I almost enjoyed but was confused about. The spookiness was well done. My only real gripe with this is the number of twists in the plot - it almost became mystery like with the triple crosses. I think it sets up for the really interesting ending but leading up the end was weaker comparatively.
