I Believe in a Thing Called Love
by Maurene Goo
I was expecting more.
I have my personal preferences about K-dramas and books, of course. But I was looking for a story that K drama lovers and people who don´t know so much about the media could find interesting and funny, but I didn´t find it in this book.
"I believe in a thing called love" presents her protagonist as a girl who hasn´t have any romantic experience, likes to see K-drama and believes everything is possible with a plan, but when your plan for getting the boy that you know nothing about have three intents of killing him, perhaps you should examine it.
Desi (The protagonist) has a list with 24 steps to true love. Which involve, and I paraphrase:
4. Let the guy get to you whether it´s from annoyance or obsession.
8. Be caught in an obviously lopsided Love Triangle.
Obviously, she didn´t have any real side love interest, so she makes a fake one, and make him kiss her in a party for him to see and make him "jealous".
10. Find out the guy´s big secret.
12. Life-threating event makes him/you realize how real your love is.
14. Lock that baby in with a kiss!
23. Take drastic measures for your happy ending.
All of this steps could have been use to reevaluate how we see romantic gestures and the behaviors of girls and boys in this situations. But no, in the end she has his happy ever after even when she almost kill him, lied to him, manipulated the situations and all of this with a romantic setting.
So, yeah. I didn't like it. I almost didn't finished it. But if you want to read it, go ahead.
