The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

I was really in the mood for a good ya fantasy that could make me feel like I was 14 again and this did the trick. in fact, it's wayyy better than I expected. I genuinely enjoyed the writing and how everything was handled. the last 25% of the book was SO GOOD HOLY HELL. I love the way the author describes a character going through trauma and grief using little details that really made me feel like I'm experiencing the grief through them than generic descriptions.

I'll say that the twist (for lack of better words and spoilers) really made things kinda confusing and just overall affected my enjoyment a bit. it felt so predictable but I was just bamboozled ajdhsjk (still not over it). however I went back and re-read some of the chapters and what do you know? it all makes sense now 😭 tbh I hate the fact that I might've missed out on the true experience of the story but I might actually re-read it from the start one day. I had a lot of fun reading it.
