More Baths Less Talking: Notes from the Reading Life of a Celebrated Author Locked in Battle with Football, Family, and Time by Nick Hornby

5.0

I always love this books and this is my favorite of the lot. Funny, clever, thoughtful and kind - plus what can be better than book recommendations from another book lover? Very highly recommended!

*...well, I was going to say, self-aggrandizingly, that I hunted it down, like some kind of implacable bibliomaniac Mountie, but we all know that nowadays hunting books down takes about two seconds.*

*Surely we all occasionally buy books because of a daydream we're having - a little fantasy about the people we might turn into one day, when our lives are different, quieter, more introspective, and when all the urgent reading, whatever that might be, has been done.*

*The laziest, most irritating book-club criticism of a novel is that the reader "just didn't care" bout the characters or their predicament, a complaint usually made in a tone suggesting that this banality is the product of deep and original thought.*

*And so a lot of adult life - if your hunger and curiosity haven't been squelched by your education - is learning to join up the dots that you didn't even know were there.*
