- Solid book; kept me entertained.
- Wouldn't re-read but maybe recommend.
Definitely one of Hesse's more intriguing works. Given this is an autobiographical fiction, it really makes you wonder and think about the deeper meaning behind some of the events and especially the ending. I closed the book with more questions than answers, but found the journey fascinating all the same. If you want a book to talk about, this has plenty of content to explore.

Graphic: Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Suicidal thoughts, Classism
Moderate: Alcoholism, Cursing, Drug abuse, Sexual content, Blood, Dysphoria
Minor: Body shaming, Death, Domestic abuse, Genocide, Homophobia, Violence, Antisemitism, Car accident, Murder, War
This was written and takes place in Germany shortly after WWI. The main character isn't for the war at ALL, but the reason for it and its after effects are described occasionally. The book mostly focuses on the MC's struggle with finding a place in this world and goes through his mindset in dealing with those around him while trying to navigate his mental state.
