The Tenderness of Stones
by Marion Fayolle
Visually stunning, simply a beautiful object of a book. Fayolle's narrative is so recursive, so elusive, surrealistically winding back and forth from extended metaphor to extended metaphor to cold fact, and all along staging a fascinating and vaguely discombobulating relation to her illustrations. And, in the end, it's staggering, heart-wrenching.
