Wolf by Mo Hayder

4.0

This was the seventh in the series featuring jack caffrey and as far as I can see mo hayder hasn't written a new book since 2014 so if this the end of the interesting DI then it went out on a high note with a thriller that had me gripped with tension throughout. The story is about a family held in their holiday home by two house invaders, a couple of villains whose motive is unclear as they brutalise the three victims. In the background is also a horrific murder committed in the vicinity a few years back which haunts the locals.
Caffrey, after a career jeopardising confrontation takes a break determined to find something about his brother who disappeared years ago and similarly haunts the policeman. As he meets again the walking man he is drawn into the story with a thrilling climax.
This has definitely been a series that has had it's ups and downs but I will still be sorry not revisit again a character who I have enjoyed.
