Matched
by Ally Condie
Another teen romance. While the matching concept is a unique focus on the utopian/dystopian society (have you ever noticed how most utopia/dystopia books focus on one aspect of society that has been reformed? - Uglies: plastic surgery makes us equal; Harrison Bergeron: being the same makes us equal; Matched: assigned lives eliminates wrong choices and sometimes makes us equal), it was not well executed. The protagonist was dry and the love triangle felt like a replica of every other teen romance I've read recently. Which just goes to show that even unique ideas can feel stale when the characters are poorly written.
