hmm well i don’t really know what to say about this book? there were so many things i wasn’t expecting, but for some reason, i wasn’t surprised when they happened.

i mean… i love the characters. i love them all. i love ryann and alexandria and james and blake and tomas and ahmed and shannon and like. basically everyone. even that teacher lady. she’s super cool.

i love the writing style. kayla ancrum has a way with words that you kinda just.. can’t stop reading. and the chapters are short so you get stuck easily. (i literally finished this in two days, so.) and the words used are like, really clear and straightforward. which i like. no need to spice shit up, thankyouverymuch.

the plot… i mean… what plot… just vibes. not that i’m complaining. i like it when there’s no plot; i don’t need a plot to read stuff. but the way things went in this book was just a bit odd. like… i don’t know what i was expecting, but it was not THAT.

and the relationships!! the relationships between the characters were beautiful. james and ryann are absolutely amazing and i would die for them. alexandria and ryann are just. AAHHHHHH. yeah. and the whole group is just so nice. i love them all.

OH AND JACK-AUGUST-RINA BEING IN THIS BOOK. I LITERALLY CRIED. I SHED SO MANY TEARS. (okay, i’m exaggerating, but really, i did tear up whenever they showed up.) AND THE TOY FACTORY AND AHMED TALKING ABOUT HIS PARENTS’S CRIMINAL PAST HDJDJSJFJFJF AHH i just love them so much. i missed them and now i want to reread the wicker king.

honestly i don’t even know what i’m talking about at this point but hmm i don’t know why i didn’t like the book as much as i hoped i would. i mean, i did finish it in two days and cried a little, but like, there’s just something about it that blocks me from making me fall in love with it the way i do with some books. maybe it’s just Not That Good or i just simply didn’t vibe with it.

i surely don’t hate it— it’s not bad. i just don’t LOVE it. it’s okay. it’s an okay book. with great characters. and great writing style. the other things are a bit off though.

anyway, good night to the bird siblings and the bird siblings only <3
