"There can't be one heart for hatred and another for love. We only have one, and I always thought about how to save my heart."

This book is a beautiful, horrible, tragic, inspiring book. In it, the women of the Red Army tell their stories of WWII, with an inescapable and irrefutable pathos and power.

This is art, and it's necessary reading for those interested in the human view of the Eastern Front.
