The title is a huge spoiler, and if you read the first book then you probably started this book like I did: baying for blood, eager for the moment that the title gives away. However, such is Maurice Druon's talent that my feelings shifted as the moment approached. His writing does not change history: Marguerite of Burgundy still did what she did, and you won't love her if you have any sense. But you will feel for her, as you will feel for everyone else who falls victim to the intrigues and caprices of a royal court. Finished this in a day and already I'm scrabbling to start the third book.
