Frost by C.N. Crawford

4.0

This is one of the books that helped me scratch my high fae romantasy itch. Frost definitely has its serious moments and risky competition, but it has lower stakes in terms of what happens if the MC fails as opposed to other (more grimdark) fantasy books. I can see why it was such a big hit on TikTok and Amazon. Even though it is a much shorter book and will likely be a less lengthy series, I had moments where it felt very much like a Karen Marie Moning book (which is a nostalgic and good thing)!

This one takes place in a world that bridges our human realm with the realm(s) of the fae. It starts out as an urban fantasy but does not stay there for long, for those who may or may not prefer that genre. Overall, I did enjoy the character development, though I think much more of it will emerge in book 2. Many secrets about the fae king and our MC/heroine are hinted at and explored, but the most satisfying answers appear to be coming later.

Initially, this book was described to me as a slow burn, but it keeps an even pace and enough personality, that it does not feel slow. This IS dialogue heavy between the fae king and the heroine/MC, but we get healthy interjections of actions and plot reveals to keep things moving. There is some light spice, and I hope to see some smut as the series progresses!
