Michael Crichton is obviously a talented writer, but I just think the premise is silly. So, he can generate genuine suspense temporarily, but eventually it becomes absurd. I was impressed with the dialogue of the different subject-matter experts, because it seemed to reflect a lot of knowledge and  or research in several scientific fields. But the story just lost steam and ended in a whimper.
