Big Magic
by Elizabeth Gilbert
I've been known to refer to the occasional 'crisis of faith' over my artwork (lightly said but deeply felt). Judging from the GoodReads responses to Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic, I'm not the only one who has those feelings, or who found Big Magic inspirational. Gilbert suggests that creative work should come from joy, not fear and misery. Gilbert divides Big Magic into six sections, titled: Courage, Enchantment, Permission, Persistence, Trust and Divinity. Those titles in themselves give you an idea of where she's coming from. I really enjoy Gilbert's conversational style and I'm willing to follow her train of thought, even if I don't buy in to some of her ideas (like, where ideas come from). Recommended to my artsy friends (you know who you are).
