The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie

1.0

I've tried reading this book. Twice. Everyone rants and raves about how great it is. I feel like I'm reading a different book.
I've made it 25% in and just the hint of plotlines can be found.
The characters?
Logen is supposed to be a great warrior but spends the first quarter of the book running from fights.
Captain Jezal is a dandy training for a duel. Everyone he runs into thinks he's a great swordfighter but his training shows he sucks. Does he have a bard hype-man running around town singing his praises or something? I don't understand the disconnect. Doesn't matter, he's more interested in blocking his sister's groove than his important duel anyway, and I could care less about either.
And fan-favorite, Glokta. A selfish, whining torturer who grumbles endlessly about walking and stairs. This is what people like to read? I wish I could make $$$ off of my complaining, but nobody seems to care.

I just don't know what I'm supposed to like - and I'm not reading three books in to get to a plot.
