Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

medium-paced

4.0

Project Hail Mary was definitely a fun ride.

I loved the plot line of this story: a man is sent into space on a mission to save Earth. Super fun! I love space, so I was intrigued by the premise. We start off the story in the same situation as our mmc—we have no idea what’s happening. Throughout the story we slowly learn and pick up new details about why he is in space and what is wrong with Earth. The flashbacks added a lot of depth to the story and helped us understand Grace more, so I liked them.

My biggest issues involved the pacing, the math jargon, and the cringy humor. This is a nearly 500 page book. Didnt need to be that long imo. We could have sped along through so many useless moments imo. This might be a me issue but I am no mathematician nor am i a scientist. I struggled through the math parts, just glossed right over them.

We meet a fun alien friend who i loved (and always read his voice in a russian accent) who definitely was the star of the show. Im glad we met him!

The ending was interesting, but I also think someone should have died. They got off too easy 🫠
