Once Upon a Broken Heart
by Stephanie Garber
I really enjoyed reading Once Upon a Broken Heart.
What a twist on the beloved story, Cinderella!
Our main character, Evangeline Fox is likable. I loved that she had clear flaws such as, literally going to a fate in the hopes to stop the wedding of the guy she is in love with. The story didn't feel bland or dull.
I loved the fantastical setting, and the twist on the gods (fates) being seen as pretty horrible, but also necessary to the world. The King of Hearts aka Jacks is such a good morally gray character. He is villainous, yet loveable.
I am hoping that there is more character development with Evangeline in the second book. That was my one area of complaint is that the characters can be two-dimensional, and I would love to see that addressed.
Overall, I think that this is a fun read!
