Welcome to Garden Valley by Jean Shelby

4.0

This book is nothing like my usual reads, which are mostly romance and fantasy, but I still enjoyed it. It’s a story about a family where the woman is struggling with parenting her kids while also dealing with some challenges at work. Her husband is loving, but there are issues in their relationship that she doesn’t express openly. I didn’t like how she suppressed her emotions and hid her true feelings from him.

Eventually, her husband gets transferred to another state, and she dreads the changes this will bring to her life. However, it turns out that this move was the best thing to happen to their family. I loved seeing how their relationship dynamics evolved—both between the mother and her kids, and between the husband and wife.

The book also features a renovation trope, and anyone who loves that, along with themes of family and relationships, would really enjoy this story. It’s so rewarding to see the transformation of a neglected house into a beautiful home. I also adored the small-town setting and the warm, welcoming people.

Overall, I liked this book, and if you’re someone who enjoys small-town settings and renovation stories, give this one a try!
