5.0

A brilliant, absorbing horror-tinged exploration of early motherhood’s impact on the mental health of the main character, Grace, who has accidentally found herself pregnant with her sort-of boyfriend, Ryan.

There was a strong tinge of realism in this, but it also draws strongly on the bleak Yorkshire landscape, and on the feeling of desolation in its moorland and abandoned industrial buildings.

Yet another great read from the incomparable Naomi Booth.
