vesper101 's review for:
Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick
by Joe Schreiber
Read as a Gateway Nominee. The premise shows a lot of promise, but the narrative stops short. I loved that this book was written as a series of college essay responses, but I feel like things could have been taken further and it defied expectations (but not necessarily in a good way).
A first-person narrative about a boy and his prom night adventure with his family's foreign exchange student, this story seems like it should read like a quintessential spy tale. It seems, however, to revolve back and forth between outlandish spy tale without real-life consequences and a book outlining the horrors of kidnapping and human trafficking.
Overall, not a bad read, I would recommend it to my students who like an adventure
