Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

5.0

When I asked for a Black love story, this is what I meant.

I'm not going to go into a huge review about this book because there's so much in it that you'll just have to read it to see but essentially Seven Days in June by Tia Williams follows two 'messy' individuals--Shane and Eva--were once two high school lovers for seven days in June...until Shane disappeared. Fast forward 15 years later, they find each other again. This time, Shane is a well-renowned author and mentor to at-risk youth. Eva is a single mother to the wittiest 12-year-old you'll ever meet and a niche author of erotica. Once they lock eyes, everything from their past comes rushing back. They have another seven days to get it right. Will they?

The teenage angst, despair, and pain. The chaos (they were a messy ass couple y'all). The love. The banter. The character development. The Black love. Breaking generational curses. It was just all so beautifully done. Williams really knew how to pull at the heartstrings with this because I was crying by 3 PM. I cried hard. She grasped me with the first paragraph (I hollered.) and kept me after that. She really made me want to dig deeper into finding more Black love stories like this because it was everything I needed. I had to rate this 5 stars. I won't be reading any reviews because if I see one bad thing I will cry and report you (lol).

I hope every Black woman and man is loved as dramatically and violently as these two love each other.
