Blood Captain by Justin Somper

3.0

Grace and Connor, twins that chose to join different pirate crews, continue their adventures in the third book of the Vampirates series. Grace stays on her Vampirates ship, with vampire and donor crew, and journeys with them to a guru that can help heal an ill vampire on the crew. He has been unable to feed on his donor, which is suspending the youth that she has been enjoying as his donor. She is rapidly aging, and though she and Grace don't get along, Grace feels compelled to help her. Connor, meanwhile, is having adventures of his own with other humans, meeting his ebullient captain's brother (also a captain) and his family, and not sure how he feels about them. This new captain's wife is named Trofie, and has a golden hand obtained under mysterious circumstances. His son, around Connor's age, is ill-mannered and seems to dislike Connor from the instant he lays eyes on him. The whole family is quite pretentious, which Connor isn't used to, but he tries to be polite for the sake of his captain, who has earned his loyalty time and time again. Recommended for grades 6-8.
