Manhunt is an essential addition to the canon of the ‘Gender Apocalypse’ genre; from the inclusion of all stripes of trans people and the ways 21st-century logistics would be affected by suddenly losing half the population, to how a certain ‘political’ group’s views would operate, taken to their logical extreme.
I read this book because I first heard of the author on Twitter; although I’ve had mixed success with this in the past, I’m happy to say that it worked out for me this time. The prose is fantastic — gory, dreamlike, explicit, and heart-wrenching at turns, it explores multiple perspectives for a broad look at the spectrum of political divisions in this Gender Aocalypse; from the TERFs on their hateful rampage to purge the earth of surviving trans women, to the cis women who alternately support and turn on them, to the violence at hand when typical queer infighting is suddenly attached to even higher stakes than usual. While I could see certain twists at the end of the book coming, the experience was all the richer for being effectively foreshadowed.
