Beowulf: A New Translation by Maria Dahvana Headley

emotional funny reflective medium-paced

4.0

This translation of Beowulf was a breath of fresh air. The slang brought levity and fun to the poem. I also appreciated the feminist touches and the author's insightful introduction.

The audiobook was well narrated.

Would not recommend to pretentious folks who take things like Beowulf too seriously.

"Bro, Fate can fuck you up."

"Let me drop some truth into your tangent."

“We might, if we analyzed our own long-standing stories, use them to translate ourselves into a society in which hero making doesn’t require monster killing, border closing, and hoard clinging, but instead requires a more challenging task: taking responsibility for one another.”-Introduction
